Dental Treats or Almond Biscotti?
Abbie’s two most favorite treats are 3M Dental Treats, of which she has 2 to 3 per day, (which are excellent to keep her teeth clean) and homemade almond biscotti, which she does not have every day, but will do just about anything for. Like most Shih Tzu’s, she has a very expressive face, and can easily communicate just what she wants. Just tonight, we were have a few biscotti after dinner. She heard the crunching, and zoomed right over to the table and gave me the “biscotti look”, which is a very intense, focused seductive stare. No barking, mind you, just the stare. How could I resist?
Her other favorite, the 3M Dental Treats are asked for at regularly scheduled intervals during the day: 10:00 am and 2:00 pm, and after she finishes her dinner. Now she knows if she doesn’t “finish” her food, there is no Dental Treat. She knows the difference between “eating your food” and “finishing y0ur food”, and that only the latter produces the desired treat. Since she goes to the office with me on work days, my patients who have had appointments at the 10:00 and 2:00 time slots are all amused at her biological clock awaiting her treats.
Sometimes patients will take their own dogs in with them for appointments. If they are there when it’s Dental Treat time, the visiting doggie gets his own Dental Treat. Abbie is initially mortified at this but accepts it as being a good host. It also helps her to get more doggie friends, too!
