Abbie’s April Afternoon
Beautiful days like today are an inspiration to everyone who has weathered the New England days of Winter. Abbie can’t make up her mind whether she wants to run back and forth on the deck checking out the birds, ducks, red squirrels and chip monks or just plain running around on the grass. For someone as short as she is, there are advantages of being up high, on the deck, but there is the disadvantage of not having all those neat smells on the ground. It reminds me that it’s time for her family reunion with her siblings who are in the general area. To the best of my knowledge, she has two full siblings, and two or three half-siblings (same mommy, different daddy). Her full brother, Mocha, is a very friendly little guy whose parents have sent me some of his photos to post on Abbie’s blog. Here is a cute one of him:
He is a light brown color and very expressive!
Shih-Tzu’s are very affectionate, loyal dogs who love being with their families. Their dispositions can be reminiscent of cats and in fact their name in Chinese, means “little lion”. Shih-Tzu’s originated in Tibet and were brought to China in the 17th century to live with the Chinese emperor in the inner rooms of his palace. They are easy to care for, but do require daily combing. Abbie is quite comfortable being groomed twice a day, as I have done this since since I brought her home when she was 8 weeks old. She enjoys the focused attention and typically races around the house after her face is washed, hair and topknot combed, and her bow placed on her head.
She enjoys going to work and is fiercely protective of me, our house, and neighborhood. Like other Shih-Tzu’s, her bark is her defense, for notification; they are not aggressive dogs and are not known to attack people. She’s on the porch right now, taking in the warm sun on her favorite couch. Who says it’s a dog’s Life?
