Vitamin C Shower for Your Health
Have you ever noticed the strong odor of chlorine while you were showering? Have you noticed your skin and hair being dry? Do you know that by showering in chlorine-treated water, you are absorbing more chlorine through your skin than if you were to drink the chlorinated water from a swimming pool? The tap water from your municipal water supply is treated with chlorine to disinfect your water. Chlorine is very effective at killing the organisms in water that can make us sick. We need it in municipal water supplies, but we don’t need it after it comes out of the faucet. Not only do we not need it at the faucet but it has been shown to be harmful to our skin, hair and internal organs, as well as being carcinogenic. What to do about this chemical hazard? One beneficial solution is to neutralize the chlorine with Vitamin C. This process changes the damaging effects of chlorine into a pH concentration which is compatible to skin and hair, and does not become pulmonary health risk.
The mantle of our skin and the cuticle of our hair are strongest and most lustrous when it is exposed to mildly acidic solutions. The range of pH (0 to 14) is a logarithmic measure of very strong acid solutions to very strong alkali solutions. Sebum, the natural oil of our hair, has a pH of 5; most good shampoos have a pH between 5 and 7. The pH of the Neutra-C and the resulting weak acidic solution containing the harmless chlorine is within the same pH range as the Sebum of our hair and shampoo.
By maintaining the proper pH of shower water, we do not weaken the protective acidic nature of our skin which serves as an environmental barrier to our bodies. Likewise, hair which is chemically treated for coloration and texture already has its protective cuticle compromised by those harsh substances. The mildly acidic nature of the Neutra-C solution helps to restore the naturally acidic balance of each strand of hair, making it smoother, softer and silkier.
The Neutra-C chlorine neutralizing filter works by a simple chemical process, in which the same Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) that is essential to our good health interacts with the chlorine present in your municipal water supply. This reaction essentially leaves the pH (strength of an acid) relatively unchanged from the mild ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) solution in your Neutra-C filter to another very mild acidic solution which renders the free chlorine harmless to your skin and hair while protecting your lungs. I think this is a great post. One thing that I find the most helpful is number five. Sometimes when I write, I just let the flow of the words and information come out so much that I loose the purpose. It’s only after editing when I realize what I’ve done. There’s defiantly a lot of great tips here I’m going to try to be more aware of.
