Special Ops: Special Men
The
death of Osama bin Laden by United States Special Forces this past week has captured the interest of the world and media as the focal points of news stories. As a Psychologist, I am intrigued over the media’s fascination of the men involved in this operation. Of course they are special: why would anyone expect any less? There are hundreds and hundreds of meticulously trained, disciplined men out there, daily risking their well-being to improve the security of the Free World. We just don’t hear about it, nor do we need to.
I’m completely all right about covert operations in order to efficiently protect the interests of our country and allies. I just watched an online video on Fox News interviewing a former Navy Seal. I suspected that my seven year old granddaughter had submitted the questions to him about his training, they were so juvenile. Bottom line is that the Special Ops guys who choose to do this for their country really are superior specimens of humanity in every way and aren’t looking for notoriety or fame. Quite the opposite, in fact.
After the hoopla over Osama bin Laden’s death dies down, the publicity being given to Special Ops will also recede. A good percentage of the public will go back to their usual mundane topics of interest about celebrity drug habits and ridiculous “reality shows”, feeling safe and secure in their daily routines, while the Special Ops teams return to their clandestine work fighting drug cartels and terrorists in a very real and dangerous world, which is not safe, secure, nor routine.
I’m waiting for some feminist group to now demand that women have an “equal role” in Special Operations. After all, the publicity has been given exclusively to men in this recent undertaking. Let’s not forget the fact that men are inherently physically stronger than women, especially in upper body strength, and there’s nothing that can change that fact. Women have different kinds of strength, but are just not built for certain kinds of physically demanding work.
Why is it that we can accept artistic and athletic talent as “God-given”, frequently attaching “regal” status to some of those people, but when it comes to protecting the public, we need quotas to represent the population at large, regardless of appropriate fitness for duty? Why do women need to be on submarines? The Navy has done a great job adapting women in many different roles, why can’t some people be happy with that? Fortunately, the covert nature of Special Ops should be able to deal with the Feminists should they start insisting on “equal rights”.
Anyway, I’d like to personally express my gratitude to all of the Special Ops guys out there, whether they are Military or Contract people. You’re literally the Best, in every way. Isn’t it interesting that we place our most valuable assets in the most dangerous situations and the weakest in the most secure? A paradox for sure, but all the more, Thank You!

This is a well thought out article that I have bookmarked for future reference. Have a good.

brinkka2011 says: This is a smart blog. I mean it. You have so much knowledge about this issue, and so much passion. You also know how to make people rally behind it, obviously from the responses. Youve got a design here thats not too flashy, but makes a statement as big as what youre saying. Great job, indeed.
